It is well known that a correlation exists between the signal loss at the receiver and the distance between it and the transmitter. This is clear from the Friis transmission equation which calculates the signal strength at the output of a receiver assuming free space propagation [19]. This equation is given in logarithmic form by

where is the received power, is the transmitted power, is the wavelength, d is the distance between the transmitter and receiver and and are the antenna gain of the receiver and transmitter in the direction between them.
